Validation Process
The development and validation of the Job Fit Inventory for Support Staff will be structured as follows:
- Formation of a Development Consortium – Polaris Educational Systems (PES) will seek to enlist the cooperation of 4-8 school districts in the initial development and validation project. Each district will be requested to supply participants in the validation effort in addition to assistance at the job analysis stage of the project.
- Job Analysis – PES conducts telephone interviews with job experts in each district for each type of job included in the project. Based upon the interviews, PES prepares a Job Analysis Questionnaire that will be placed on the web. Additional experts from each district are then asked to complete the Questionnaire.
- Trial Test Development – To identify profile characteristics, PES analyzes the responses to the Job Analysis Questionnaire. Existing PES test items are then selected to measure the characteristics and, as necessary, additional items are developed.
- Validation Data Collection – PES works with cooperating school districts to determine optimal methods for administering the trial version of the test. Incumbent responses to the test are confidential. Supervisors of the incumbents who take the test are asked to supply confidential performance evaluations using a web-based data collection tool.
- Validation Analyses and Test Refinement – PES analyzes the validation data to (a) verify the relationship between performance on the test and performance on the job, and (b) refine the test to its final administration length. The test will then be placed on the same administration platform as the test in use for teaching candidates and be available for use.
